What We're About:
FUMCYOUTHBR is the youth ministry of First United Methodist Church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. We're a fun-loving group of students and caring adult leaders who love to gather for food, games and worship. We aim to fulfill the overall vision of FUMC, to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world!
Our home base is the Youth Building, most easily accessed on America Street, which is the result of FUMC's capital campaign called "The Future is Now." But we are also all around Baton Rouge - for Tribes, Bible Studies, at basketball games, and fun events each week! We love to be where you are.
Fun. Games. Getting to know Jesus. Mission trips. Tribes. What's Up Wednesdays. Bible study. Shenanigans. Pizza. Sunday school. Donuts. Nine Square in the Air. 18-hour bus rides. Easter Walks. Ski Retreats + so much more. But you'll have to come hang out with us to see it all!
How do I get involved? Check us out online - @fumcyouthbr on Instagram or YouTube. Then come hang out!
The best place to start is at Sunday school. We meet each week for Sunday school online and onsite at FUMC, we play trivia (and you win prizes!) then split into grades for a bible lesson. Pre-register for Sunday school each week HERE.
If you like Sunday School, getting connected with some of those new friends in a Tribe is the next step! In tribes we grow deeper with Jesus and as friends. Register to get involved with a Tribe HERE. As always, don't come alone! You're welcome to bring a wing-man (or woman) with you.
Check the calendar for the next invite event: the Great Pumpkin Hunt, an All Nighter, Mardi Gras Ball, or Super Bowl Party, etc.
If you like those, you might also like to join in a mission trip, TREK or Ski Retreat! For more info about those, fill out the form in "Contact Us." Let the youth staff know you want to check it out, so we can help you have the best experience (especially if you require special dietary or other accommodations)!
What are your COVID precautions? We care very much about the safety of and wellbeing of others (it's kind of a thing Jesus talked a lot about). At FUMC:
MASKS are required at all times on campus, and with groups.
We follow current guidelines for physical distancing, hand washing, and sanitizing.
No common food or drink is currently served
Minimized the need to touch common surfaces through digital check in and augmenting game play
FUMC's current guidelines can be found HERE.
Where do I go when I get there?
Sunday Mornings: All youth meet in the Joe Dean Court on the 3rd floor of the youth building. Park in the America Street lot and enter through the covered doors pictured above. Take the elevator, or stairs (if you're into that sort of thing), to the 3rd floor. You'll be greeted by a smiling face (from behind a mask) and shown how to check in to the computer. Cokes and donuts and games await inside! You'll hang out, before breaking into your grade level for a discussion and lesson about God!
Zoom: Wake up, roll over, and log on! The access link is on the homepage of the website.
Tribes: Check the calendar on the homepage for the most current meeting time and location for your grade. If you have questions or need to get in contact with your leader, contact Kale at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Am I welcome? Who can be a part of FUMC Youth? Any youth who wants to be there! Regardless of the church you attend, or don’t attend, we welcome anyone who desires to be part of our community of faith. Just come to Sunday school, Tribe, or an event, and you belong! We can’t wait to grow in faith together.
What's Available for Parents?
SPOT – Spirituality for Parents of Teens is a class for parents of teens that provides community, support, and spiritual tools to help you and your family thrive during the teenage years, not just survive! Sign up for this group, or others, through FUMC's Center for Spiritual Formation.
On Sunday mornings: Adult Sunday school groups also meet at 9:45 (online and on Zoom), or attend the America Street contemporary worship at the same time. To find a Sunday school class for you, or sign up for SPOT, contact FUMC's Director of Discipleship Karen Milioto, at email@example.com!
Parent support is essential to the Youth Ministry at FUMC. Complete this survey to find where you can join in the fun of FUMCYOUTHBR and meet other parents in the process! If you need help with parenting challenges, you're not alone! This stuff is hard and we're here to love you, as well as your teenagers.
