What We're About:
FUMCYOUTHBR is the youth ministry of First United Methodist Church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. We're a fun-loving group of students and caring adult leaders who love to gather for food, games and worship. We aim to fulfill the overall vision of FUMC, to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world!
Our home base is the Youth Building, most easily accessed on America Street, which is the result of FUMC's capital campaign called "The Future is Now." But you can also catch us around Baton Rouge in Bible Studies, at basketball games, and fun events each week!
Fun. Games. Getting to know Jesus. Mission trips. Tribes. What's Up Wednesdays. Bible study. Shenanigans. Pizza. Sunday school. Donuts. Nine Square in the Air. 18-hour bus rides. Easter Walks. Ski Retreats + so much more. But you'll have to come hang out with us to see it all!
How do I get involved? The best way to start is by coming to an event! We meet each week for Sunday school and Youth Night - bring a friend with you to try it out! Check the calendar for the next invite event: the Great Pumpkin Hunt, an All Nighter, Mardi Gras Ball, or Super Bowl Party, etc. If you like those, you might also like to check out a Bible Study, small group Tribe, or mission trip. We can get you more info about that once you're here. If you want, you can even let the youth staff know you want to check it out, so we can help you have the best experience (especially If you require special dietary or other accommodations)!
Where do I go when I get there?
Sunday Mornings: All youth meet in the arcade and cafe on the 2nd floor of the youth building. Park in the America Street lot and enter through the covered doors pictured above. Take the elevator, or stairs (if you're into that sort of thing), to the 2nd floor. You'll be greeted by a smiling face and shown how to check in to the computer. Cokes and donuts and games await inside! You'll hang out, before breaking into your grade level for a discussion and lesson about God!
Sunday Nights: Enter through that same lobby door on America Street, and sign in with the Youth Greeter. Junior high youth start with games in the Joe Dean gym on the 3rd floor. High school youth start with dinner and hanging out in the 2nd floor cafe.
Am I welcome? Who can be a part of FUMC Youth? Any youth who wants to be there! Regardless of the church you attend, or don’t attend, we welcome anyone who desires to be part of our community of faith. Just come to Sunday school, youth night, a Bible study, or an event, and you belong! We can’t wait to grow in faith together.
What's Available for Parents?
SPOT – Spirituality for Parents of Teens is a class for parents of teens that provides community, support, and spiritual tools to help you and your family thrive during the teenage years, not just survive! Sign up for this "Connect Group," or others, through FUMC's Center for Spiritual Formation.
On Sunday mornings: Adult Sunday school groups also meet at 9:45, or attend the America Street contemporary worship at the same time. To find a Sunday school class for you, or sign up for SPOT, contact FUMC's Director of Discipleship Karen Milioto, at firstname.lastname@example.org!
Parent support is essential to the Youth Ministry at FUMC. Complete this survey to find where you can join in the fun of FUMCYOUTHBR and meet other parents in the process!
